Nellie McClung is an amazing school. The teachers are so kind and are always willing to help out. The small classes mean that teachers can really have one on one time with the students, and you get closer with friends. Teachers don’t pick and choose based off of who they like best, everyone is included. Your opinion matters. In ways of uniforms, I like it more since everyone is wearing the same thing, and it isn’t all about who looks the best, it really is how hard you work. Though we all wear the same things, everyone can still express themselves in other ways like hair colour, jewelry, make up, and so on. From my personal experiences, in elementary, I was always bullied for being overweight. This made me really insecure about myself, and I never jumped at given opportunities that I was offered. I was scared I’d get made fun of and I was always super shy. Shortly after coming to Nellie, that all changed. I made the best friend I could ever ask for, and lots more friends. As a small class, we’re really like a family, and I love it. I have so much confidence now and I’m not afraid to go up to someone and just start talking. I had a hard time making friends before coming to Nellie, a really hard time, but now I make friends everywhere I go. The teachers have created such a welcoming environment even in the tough moments, and the students are so kind. I love the Nellie program a lot and I really do believe that people can benefit from coming here. I love it so much and I’m really disappointed to be leaving this year, so I wear my uniform proudly and put in everything I’ve got. – Sophie, Grade 9
