Changes for the Nellie McClung Program

The Nellie McClung Program has been educating and empowering young women since 1995.

The Nellie Program is entering a time of change. Due to declining enrolment, the Edmonton Public School Board has conducted a program review.

At the Annual General Meeting we will be joined by a representative from Edmonton Public Schools - Constantine Kastrinos, Consultant/Program Distribution Planning, Finance & Infrastructure. Mr. Kastrinos will be attending our Annual General Meeting to share some key findings from the program review. We have been advised that the District is not considering deactivating the program. It is, however, considering amalgamation.

As current President of the Nellie McClung Educational Society, I cannot stress the importance of every parent attending the Annual General Meeting so your voice can be heard in shaping the future of this very valuable program – Monday, October 6, 2014 will be a very important day in the history of the Nellie McClung Junior High Program – please attend to show your support and to demonstrate to the Edmonton Public School Board that this program is one that deserves their support and ongoing commitment.

Elections

The Nellie L McClung Educational Society believes in a collaborative partnership among staff, parents, community business and learning institutions. There is overwhelming research that indicates that children do better in school when their parents are involved in their education.

We recognize that there are many parents within the Nellie Program, and we all have different preferred ways of being involved.

There are some who simply wish to carry out their role as parents.  There are some who are able to contribute their time and energy as volunteers.  There are still others who are able to become NLMES Board Members.  All three groups have important roles in helping their girls achieve success.

Please consider taking on a leadership, committee or volunteer role. The elected positions are listed on the back of this page and help with other projects like website maintenance, CEEDS activities, advertising and promotion is always welcome and appreciated.
